Feeling “Eggcentric” this Weekend?

If you’re in the Savannah area and are looking to take advantage of the wonderful spring weather we’re having  then consider a trip out to Hope Grows Farm in Sylvania, GA.  Originally named “Adcote Acres” they have recently changed their name with the new  website still under construction.

I haven’t had a chance to make it there yet myself but have become acquainted with Arianne and Elliot who run the farm.  I met them last year when they started selling their eggs (well, not “their eggs”…really their chicken’s eggs) at the Forsyth Farmers Market.  If you’ve ever been around chicken coops and or chicken farms you’ll usually know it’s nearby before you see it (smell).  They use rolling chicken coops which they roll around their pastures to both help fertilize the soil and keep the manure from building up which in turn allows it to decompose without stinking.

In late summer they started with their first round of broiler chickens and now it looks like they’re starting to get into Berkshire hogs.  Their farm life blog gives more insight into their growing operations.

If you don’t already have plans for Saturday, or are looking to hunt even more eggs, head up to Sylvania for their second annual Egg Festival and Farm Tour.  It sounds like it’s going to be a lot of fun.  In fact, if I wasn’t going to be busy with classes myself, that’s exactly where you’d find me!
