About
“Beyond the Recipe”
In the fifteen years that I’ve been teaching cooking, both in academia and personal enrichment classes, I find that people too often focus on learning “recipes” instead of the techniques and concepts that support the recipe. My teaching philosophy is to look “Beyond the Recipe” and “cook between the lines” to get a better understanding of what makes it what it is….whether it be scientific, cultural, historical, or sentimental, every recipe has a story to tell and something to teach!
I have established this blog to stay in touch with the many guests who have become friends as a result of joining me in my cooking classes, as well as reach out and connect with many more. The world of food and cooking is massive and I learn something every single day. I hope to share with you my knowledge, experience, and new discoveries and look forward to having you share with me!

Thanks Joan! I don’t get this updated as much as I’d like but I’m trying to get better.
You were a great mentor to me. Thanks for the many opportunities and encouragement that you provided and offered!
